The big advantage of Gel is zero maintenance: no electrolyte level to watch, no gassing in normal use, and installation possible in various positions. It is also more tolerant than flooded lead of slightly deep discharges. Two honest caveats: like any Gel battery, it remains heavy and should not be discharged too low to preserve its lifespan, and recharging requires a Gel-suitable charger to avoid damaging it.
