We adopted this magnetic Zolo for train journeys, and it is a cleverer object than it looks. The magnetism is firm: placed on the back of an iPhone 16, it holds without sliding, even when handling the phone one-handed. The real surprise is the kickstand. Once folded out, it tilts the phone to a comfortable angle, turning a train tray or an airplane armrest into a small viewing station. We used it far more often than expected. On charging, wireless remains what it is, convenient but slow and a little warm over long sessions. That is where the built-in USB-C cable earns its place: plugged in, it climbs to 30W and charges an iPhone far faster, or rescues an iPad. Not having to carry an extra cord is, once again, the kind of detail that counts when traveling. Two caveats: 10,000 mAh is about two phone charges, so it is more a day companion than a weekend reserve, and wireless charging draws more than wired, so do not count on two full charges if you only use it magnetically. For urban and light nomadic use, it is a success.

We adopted the Ugreen MagFlow as our main MagSafe battery, and the difference from 7.5W models is obvious: at 25W wireless, the iPhone charges genuinely fast, you get back half the battery in a short half hour without plugging in a single cable. The magnets hold firmly, you keep the phone in hand without it sliding. The built-in USB-C cable is well thought out, it also acts as a strap and saves carrying a cable, and the digital display lets you track the level at a glance. The format stays reasonable, it slips into a pocket. Two small caveats: full Qi2 25W charging is only available on recent iPhone 16 and 17 (iOS 26), older models staying at 15W, which is already good, and it warms up a little during fast charging, like any battery of this type. But for the fastest magnetic wireless charging, with cable and display, it is currently one of the best on the market.

What strikes you first is how thin it is: barely thicker than a slightly generous case, it does not unbalance the phone in hand and vanishes into a pocket. The soft-touch silicone finish is pleasant and grippy. We also like that the USB-C cable is included, which is far from standard, handy for wired charging at 15W. Two honest caveats: wireless charging stays at 7.5W, fine for topping up but not the fastest on the market (some rivals reach 15W), and with 5,000 mAh you get about one iPhone charge. It is also a little pricey for its class. We tested this MagFlow as a weekend pack, and its capacity genuinely changes how you use it. With 20,000 mAh in a magnetic format, you stop counting charges: an iPhone goes back to full three times, with enough left to rescue earbuds and a watch. Certified Qi2 at 25 W is immediately noticeable against older 15 W MagSafe packs, wireless charging finally becomes a real solution rather than a slow fallback. The magnetic grip is firm with its seventeen magnets: the phone does not slide, even while walking. The built-in 45 W USB-C cable is the other pleasant surprise, charging an iPhone at maximum speed and even rescuing a sleeping ultraportable. Being able to feed four devices at once, one of them wirelessly, makes it a genuine travel hub. The two caveats are linked: at 480 g this is no longer a pocket pack but a bag one, and the 33 mm thickness shows when stuck to the back of a phone. We took to this Samsung induction battery for its two-in-one nature. Day to day, simply dropping the phone on top to charge it, with no cable to find, is genuinely pleasant, just like charging a Galaxy Watch or earbuds the same way. And when you want speed, the 25 W USB-C ports do the job: you get a good chunk of a phone's battery back in little time. Being able to power three devices at once (two cables plus induction) is a real help when travelling, when everyone needs juice. The LED indicators are clear, you always know how much is left, and the included cable saves carrying one. The beige finish is pretty and a change from the usual black shells. Two honest reservations: induction charging is handy but slow (7.5 W), so for speed you are better off using USB-C, and at 222 g it makes itself felt in a small pocket. But for mixed wireless and wired use, with this capacity and versatility, it is a genuinely well-designed power bank.

Qi2 is the open standard from the WPC consortium, closely modelled on MagSafe: same magnets, same alignment, 15 watts. MagSafe remains Apple's proprietary implementation. In practice a Qi2 charger performs identically to a certified MagSafe one on an iPhone, and also works with compatible Android phones.
Because magnetic transfer loses 20 to 35 per cent of the energy as heat, against 5 to 10 per cent over USB-C. The phone warms up and its protection system then deliberately throttles the power. A 10,000 mAh magnetic pack therefore delivers noticeably less than a wired 10,000 mAh unit of the same capacity.
Not if it is under 3 mm thick and contains no metal parts. Beyond that the magnet grips poorly and power drops. Cases with a metal plate, card holders and ring stands block charging outright. A case badged MagSafe or Qi2 has its own ring built in and causes no trouble at all.
It does no direct harm, but the heat it generates slightly accelerates cell ageing. To limit that, avoid charging the phone in a thick sleeve or in direct sunlight, and prefer a cable for long sessions, overnight for instance.
