Wall and USB chargers

The wattage printed on a charger is what one port delivers on its own: plug in a second device and it splits, which is where models part company.

A 65 W two-port charger may deliver 65 W on port A alone, then drop to 45 plus 18 W once both are in use. Some manufacturers document that split, others say nothing at all. We measure it every time, because it decides whether your laptop keeps charging while a phone is plugged in. The second criterion is the technology: gallium nitride, GaN, halves the volume for the same output and runs cooler. Finally we record the temperature under sustained load, since a charger that gets too hot throttles its own output after a few minutes.

Size remains the headline feature: barely 140 grams, with heat staying in check even during a long charging session thanks to GaN II. Stacked against the Ugreen Nexode 65W we tested side by side, the Anker keeps an edge on its Quick Charge range (20V versus 12V), though it skips interchangeable international plugs. Two real limits stand out: 65W will not satisfy a 16-inch MacBook Pro, and once three devices share the charger, the two secondary ports settle for a modest 12W each. For a phone, a tablet, and an everyday laptop, it is a compact charger we would buy again.

The safety margin before the charger cuts out under overcurrent felt a touch tight on our sample. No cable is included and there is only one port, so it charges one device at a time. In-depth reviewRead our full review → 4.1/5 We replaced three chargers with the single Ugreen Nexode 65W, and it is exactly what you want from a good GaN charger: it disappears into a bag pocket and powers the MacBook, the phone and the earbuds at the same time. On the main port, the laptop charges at full speed, you get back half a MacBook Air's battery in a break, and plugging in a second device is no problem, power is shared without you having to think about it. One real limitation showed up when we pushed all three ports at once: charging briefly cuts out and resumes several times in that specific configuration, worth knowing if that is your everyday use case. We really appreciate the included US/UK/EU plugs: abroad, you leave the country adapter at home, a real space saver, though the swap mechanism itself feels like the one part that could break if you pull a plug off in a hurry. The finish is solid and the case does not get warmer than it should. Two more small caveats: when charging three demanding devices at once, each necessarily gets less than the port's 65W on its own, which is logical, and the USB-A is starting to look a little dated against all-USB-C. I use this Xiaomi 90W HyperCharge as the single charger on my desk, and it alone replaced two bulkier bricks. On its main USB-C port it charges my laptop at full speed, and when I add the phone and watch, the power splits intelligently without anything heating up abnormally. The body is genuinely compact for 90 W, which makes it perfect to drop into a bag for a trip. PD with PPS support is a real plus for charging recent smartphones efficiently. Two honest caveats: the USB-C cable is not supplied, and you need Xiaomi's official 6 A cable to reach 90 W on a single port, otherwise it caps lower. Nothing blocking, but good to know. To centralise the charging of all your devices without multiplying sockets, it is an excellent choice.

We set the Ugreen Nexode 300W up on a desk shared by two laptops and a smartphone, and the result was immediate: everything charged at once, without slowing anyone down. The main port took a 16-inch MacBook Pro from 0% to over half in half an hour, while a second laptop and a phone kept charging at full speed on the other ports. No more juggling multiple wall sockets behind the desk. The case stays surprisingly cool even with all five ports pulling hard, you can tell the GaN chips are doing their job. The vertical shape saves desk space, but the weight (839g) is a reminder it is built to stay put. With no screen or dial, control stays basic: plug in and it works, with no fine-tuning available. Another niggle found across several reviews over time: one port losing power after several months of heavy use. Nothing alarming day to day, but worth watching. For a desk feeding several machines at once, the Nexode 300W remains remarkably capable and hard to beat on power for the price.

We set up the Ugreen MagFlow 3-in-1 on the desk, and it immediately tidied up the cable clutter: the iPhone, the watch and the AirPods all charge in the same place, with a single gesture. The iPhone's Qi2 25W charging is striking for wireless, you get back half the battery in half an hour, at a speed you never had without a cable. The StandBy mode is very handy, you keep the time or a widget in view while it charges, and the adjustable angle lets you see the screen well. What we like most is that it folds: you take it away for the weekend without cluttering the suitcase, where classic 3-in-1 stations stay on the desk. Two honest caveats: full 25W is reserved for recent iPhone 16 and 17 (iOS 26), and the price is high, you pay for the MFi certification, the fast charging and the foldable format. But for a complete, fast and genuinely portable charging station, the MagFlow 3-in-1 is a fine success.

After several weeks with this Belkin BoostCharge sitting on the nightstand, it has replaced three different chargers without a second thought. In the morning I plug in my phone, my smartwatch and my earbuds at the same time, and each one charges without me having to think about which port to use. The real highlight is the single 67W port: travelling with just my MacBook Air, one charger is enough, no need to pack the original power brick too. The only real downside is that the unit runs noticeably warm when powering a laptop at full output, nothing alarming but you can feel it's warm to the touch, and there's no cable in the box, so you need to already have one on hand. For the price, easily justified by Belkin's reliability and the versatility of the three ports, this is a very good multi-device charger worth recommending without hesitation.

The Xtorm 35W GaN2 Ultra Wall Charger is a compact mains charger built on GaN2 technology, delivering up to 35W of Power Delivery on its USB-C port, alongside an 18W USB-A Quick Charge 3.0 port. We swapped our drawer charger for the Xtorm 35W GaN2 Ultra, and the size still catches us off guard: barely bigger than a stock iPhone charger, it disappears in the palm of your hand. On the USB-C port, a recent phone picks up a good half of its battery in about thirty minutes, plenty for a coffee break. The USB-A port is handy for a second device, earbuds or an older phone, without juggling two chargers. The white shell is understated and blends into any desk, and it stays reasonably cool even after fully charging a tablet. Two small gripes: with the USB-C port pushed to full Power Delivery, you cannot use the second port at full power at the same time, annoying if you are travelling with limited hotel sockets; and the plug is fixed (EU only), with no interchangeable head. Still, for everyday use at home or in the office, this little GaN2 Ultra charger does exactly what is asked of it, with a genuine sustainability effort (85% recycled plastic) that we appreciate.

20 watts is enough for a smartphone, 30 to 45 watts for a tablet or an ultraportable, 65 watts for a 13 to 14 inch laptop, and 100 watts for a 16 inch machine or a MacBook Pro. A more powerful charger poses no risk: the device requests the power, the charger does not force it.

Yes, with a multiport model of at least 65 watts. Watch the split though: most chargers redistribute power as soon as a second device is plugged in, for example 65 watts alone then 45 and 20 watts with two. That split is listed in the specifications, and we report it on every product page.

Because the charger's total power is fixed and shared between ports. A 65 watt model feeding three devices will not deliver 65 watts to each. Always look at the output quoted for the main port used alone, then at the distribution table for simultaneous use.

USB-C has been mandatory in the European Union since late 2024 on phones, tablets, headphones and cameras. USB-A remains useful for older accessories, but it caps at 12 or 18 watts and does not handle Power Delivery. A mixed charger is still the best compromise during the transition.

No. The USB Power Delivery protocol has the two devices negotiate voltage and current: a phone that accepts 20 watts will draw 20 watts from a 100 watt charger. The only genuine risk comes from uncertified chargers with no regulation and no overvoltage protection.

Almost all modern USB chargers accept 100 to 240 V and 50 to 60 Hz, which makes them usable worldwide. Only the plug shape changes, so a simple mechanical adapter is enough, with no transformer. Check for the 100-240 V marking printed on the casing before you leave.
