Molicel P26A 18650 (2600mAh)

Molicel might not be a household name the way Panasonic or Samsung are, and that is exactly what makes it worth discovering. This Taiwanese manufacturer has spent years specializing in a single niche, and it excels at it: high-drain lithium-ion cells capable of delivering huge instantaneous current without sagging or overheating. Among enthusiasts of powerful flashlights, demanding cordless tools and rebuildable electronics, the Molicel name carries serious weight, quoted far more often on specialist forums than mainstream consumer brands.

The P26A is a textbook example of that expertise. This 18650 cell offers 2600mAh of capacity, modest next to the 3400 to 3500mAh of the best “high-capacity” cells on the market, but that is not what it is built for: its real strength is a 35A continuous discharge rating, far beyond what generalist cells manage (typically 15 to 20A). In practice, it can power a very demanding cordless tool or an ultra-powerful flashlight without ever throttling performance, where a classic high-capacity cell would overheat or see its voltage collapse.

Technically, the P26A has a nominal voltage of 3.6V, a maximum charge voltage of 4.2V and a discharge cut-off of 2.5V, in a Flat Top (flat positive terminal) format measuring 0.72 x 2.56 in (18.3 x 65.1mm). It is sold bare, with no protection circuit: like any cell of this type, it is intended for experienced users comfortable with the usual precautions (a dedicated lithium-ion charger, no short-circuiting, storage in a case, staying within the voltage range).

While the P26A remains the best-known and most recommended cell in the community at this drain level, Molicel has since expanded its range with newer cells such as the P28A, slightly higher in capacity at an equivalent discharge rating. That does not take anything away from the P26A, which remains a perfectly sound, extensively tested choice with a reliability track record few high-drain cells can match.
