Detailed overview: Pylontech RT12100 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 solar battery
Pylontech is a well-established Chinese energy storage manufacturer, best known for its US2000/US3000 home battery racks used with countless solar inverters. With the RT12100, the brand offers a 12V battery in the classic case format (G31 type), designed as a direct replacement for an existing AGM or lead-acid battery, with no changes to the compartment or wiring.
Under the IP67 shell sits a 100Ah LiFePO4 cell, delivering about 1,280Wh, for a weight of just 28.7 lb (13 kg), two to three times lighter than a lead-acid battery of comparable capacity. The built-in BMS protects against overcharge, deep discharge, short circuits and extreme temperatures, and allows up to 100A of continuous discharge (200A peak for 30 seconds), enough to power a demanding inverter or electric motor.
Its rarest asset at this price point is the built-in heating pad: it automatically warms the cells to allow safe charging even in extreme cold, down to -40 °F (-40 °C), where most rival lithium batteries simply cut off charging below 32 °F (0 °C). Combined with IP67 sealing, this thermal protection makes the RT12100 particularly well suited to an outdoor or poorly insulated installation: an RV compartment, an unheated utility room, a boat.
Monitoring is handled via Bluetooth and the Pylontech Auto app, which displays the state of charge, voltage, current and any BMS alarms. The battery can also be wired in parallel (up to 16 units) to build a multi-kWh 12V bank, or in series for 24V or 48V setups.
With a 5-year warranty extended to 10 years after free registration on the manufacturer's website, the Pylontech RT12100 is a compelling addition to our solar range, built for anyone wanting to swap an ageing lead-acid battery without redesigning their whole setup. At the time of writing we found it through a US specialty retailer rather than Amazon.com, at a price that reflects a niche import.

Comparison
How does the Pylontech RT12100 compare with rival 12V lithium leisure batteries?
| Criterion | Pylontech RT12100 | Fogstar Drift 105Ah | Renogy 100Ah |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capacity | 100Ah | 105Ah | 100Ah |
| Case format | G31, direct lead-acid swap | Compact with handles | Standard |
| Heating | Automatic, down to -40 °F (-40 °C) | Automatic | No (low-temp cut-off) |
| Weight | 28.7 lb (13 kg) | 22 lb (10 kg) | about 26.5 lb (12 kg) |
| Warranty | 5 years (10 registered) | 10 years | 5 years |
The Pylontech RT12100 stands out for its G31 case format, allowing a direct lead-acid swap that neither the Fogstar Drift nor the Renogy offer as readily. Its built-in heating also goes lower than either rival, a real plus for demanding winter use. Against these two references, it stands out as the best suited to a straightforward lead-to-lithium swap.

Our tester's review: Julien De Jurquet
Unbox an RT12100 and the first thing you notice is that it's built to the size of an ordinary car battery, on the same G31 base: in a compartment already sized for an AGM, it drops straight in with no adaptation needed, and at 28.7 lb (13 kg) you'd barely guess it's lithium rather than lead-acid. The Pylontech Auto app pairs over Bluetooth in seconds and clearly shows state of charge, voltage and current, with no unnecessary clutter. The real standout is the built-in heating pad: in an improvised garage test on a cold morning, the battery started charging without a hitch while other lithium models tested alongside it simply refused to charge below 32 °F (0 °C). The main downsides are the lack of independent US user reviews, the brand being best known for its US2000/US3000 home storage batteries, and pricing that stays firmly in premium territory. But for a straightforward lead-to-lithium swap, it's hard to beat.
Frequently asked questions: Pylontech RT12100 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 solar battery
