Detailed overview: Liontron 100Ah lithium battery, -22 °F (-30 °C) Arctic

The Liontron LiFePO4 100Ah LXArctic Marine IP67 is the flagship of the 12V range from German manufacturer Liontron, based in Nettetal, North Rhine-Westphalia, which has become one of Europe's go-to names for lithium leisure batteries for vans, RVs and boats. This 100Ah version combines the two most advanced protections in the Liontron catalogue in a single model: the Arctic function (built-in heating) and Marine IP67 certification.

Its 100 Ah capacity, 1,280 Wh at 12.8V, relies on a LiFePO4 chemistry rated for over 3,000 cycles at 90% depth of discharge. The smart BMS allows up to 150 A continuous discharge (200 A peak for 20 seconds) and 150 A charging, enough to run a hefty inverter or recharge quickly from an alternator or solar panels.

Its defining feature is a pair of built-in heating elements, controlled automatically by the BMS: they keep the cell temperature above freezing and allow charging down to -22 °F (-30 °C), where the vast majority of lithium batteries on the market simply cut off charging below 32 °F (0 °C). A real difference for anyone wintering in a van or boating outside the summer season.

Its IP67 rating, certified for marine use, with a GORE vent membrane and automatic submersion detection, protects it from moisture, spray and splashing, a genuine asset aboard a boat or in a technical compartment exposed to the weather. Monitoring is handled via Bluetooth 4.0 and the Liontron app, which can track up to four batteries at once for parallel setups.

This level of kit comes at a price: the Liontron 100Ah LXArctic Marine sits well above generic 12V LiFePO4 batteries, but also above already solid names like the Fogstar Drift or the Renogy 100Ah, neither of which combines built-in heating with marine certification in one model. With a 7-year manufacturer warranty, M8 terminals and a repairable case (cells not glued, access via 4 screws, at 13.7 x 6.7 x 8.5 in / 348 x 170 x 216 mm), it's aimed at installations that need to keep running without faltering, winter and summer, at sea and in the mountains.

The Liontron 100Ah Arctic Marine is the only one in this line-up combining genuinely marine-rated sealing with built-in heating, where its rivals only tick one of those two boxes. The Pylontech RT12100 goes further on extreme cold (-40 °F / -40 °C) but without marine certification, and the Fogstar Drift stays lighter with a longer warranty. For a combined boat-and-deep-cold use case, the Liontron remains the best equipped.

The price of this Liontron 100Ah surprised us at first, well above what a typical 12V LiFePO4 battery costs. Then you look at the spec sheet: built-in heating that allows charging down to -22 °F (-30 °C) according to the manufacturer, when most lithium batteries simply cut off charging below 32 °F (0 °C), plus genuinely marine-rated IP67 sealing with automatic submersion detection. For a boat wintered outdoors or a van driven into the mountains in winter, that's no longer a nicety, it's what lets you actually charge in the morning. The Bluetooth app is clear and can track up to four batteries in parallel, handy as a setup grows. The stated 34.2 lb (15.5 kg) checks out on the scale, mid-pack for 100 Ah of lithium. The only real downsides: distribution is centred on Germany, and a few user reports mention issues on older Arctic generations, worth watching despite the 7-year warranty. For anyone who genuinely needs to charge in deep cold or near water, it remains a safe bet.

Frequently asked questions: Liontron 100Ah lithium battery, -22 °F (-30 °C) Arctic

Yes. Two built-in heating elements, controlled automatically by the BMS, warm the cells before and during charging, which the manufacturer says allows safe charging down to -22 °F (-30 °C), versus 32 °F (0 °C) for a classic lithium battery.

The IP67 rating protects against dust and temporary submersion. On this Liontron it comes with a GORE vent membrane and automatic submersion detection that shuts the battery down after prolonged contact with water.

The manufacturer rates it for over 3,000 charge and discharge cycles at 90% depth of discharge, several years of regular use, backed by a 7-year manufacturer warranty.

Parallel wiring to increase total capacity is supported (series wiring to 24V is not), and the Bluetooth app can monitor up to four batteries at once.

The manufacturer sells direct only within Germany, and has no confirmed US distributor for this specific model (built-in heating combined with marine certification). The price shown is converted from the German list price and should be confirmed before ordering.
