Why a home backup battery?

Power cuts, storms, load shedding or simple grid failures are becoming more frequent. A backup power station takes over instantly or within seconds, without the noise, fuel or exhaust of a generator. It can therefore be used safely indoors to keep the household's vital devices running.

The UPS function: why it matters most

Most good stations include a UPS function: plugged between the wall socket and your devices, they switch to battery in under 20 ms during an outage. What capacity and output power?

Capacity (Wh) sets the duration, output power (W) what you can plug in. To keep a router, phones and lighting for several hours, 500 to 1000 Wh is enough. To add a fridge or freezer during a long outage, aim for 1500 to 2500 Wh and at least 1500 W. Beyond that (3000 Wh and up, often expandable), you can power almost a whole home, space heater included.

How long can it run a fridge?

A household fridge draws 40 to 100 W on average (with start-up surges). A 2000 Wh station therefore keeps it going for about a day, longer if you limit door openings or recharge with a solar panel. LiFePO4 models are recommended: they withstand thousands of cycles and age well even in permanent standby.

The very first reviews from American owners lean positive: one owner notes very little charge loss over prolonged reliance on it, another uses it without issue to charge e-bikes upstairs. The one real gripe so far: at 18.8kg it is still a bit heavy to move around solo day to day, despite the claimed 34% weight cut from the previous generation.
